The Online Education Manager will have an opportunity to be creative & to have a direct impact on the lives of millions of crafters who are looking to learn new techniques, projects & skills.
The Online Education Manager provides overall content development leadership for our upcoming online education offerings for the Craft Communities at F+W Media (particularly focused on the Interweave division).
This position is responsible for the acquisition and development of new or repurposed content that can be formatted into online workshops/courses, videos, online events, webinars and other related online education products.
Must have a strong understanding of editing and editorial procedures, protocols, and content development workflow in order to maintain and enhance existing procedures and guidelines while ensuring the highest level possible of editorial quality. Must also have a familiarity with online marketing in order to help support the promotional efforts for this new venture.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages all functions related to online education programs to meet or exceed budgetary goals, provide consistent quality products and services for consumers and support overall corporate objectives.
Strategic planning and content development
- Work with the Director of Online Product Development, Community Leadership team & Editorial Directors on a regular basis
- Develop relationships with external content providers & instructors to ensure a steady flow of high quality/relevant online education content
- Monitor marketplace & identifies potential content partners (other publishers with excellent video/course content, expert designers/authors, etc.)
- Contract 3rd party instructors/content providers
- Solicit assistance from editorial teams as needed in the acquisition of new content & instructors
Marketing/Editorial
- Responsible for editing all online workshop course material
- Work with the given Community’s Online Marketing Manager (OMM) to direct online education programs’ marketing efforts
- Solicit assistance from given markets’ online content teams (who manage Community sites, newsletters, etc.) as needed for the recruitment of new online students & instructors
- Identify critical marketing populations and initiatives
- Collaborate with other communities, online education managers, online product managers and editors within F+W to coordinate joint initiatives; ensuring that all products related to online courses are effectively integrated (books, video files, DVDs, webinars, magazine articles, syllabi, assignments, etc.)
- With Director of Online Product Development, Editorial Directors and Community Leadership: evaluate the effectiveness of marketing strategies and initiatives & contribute to strategic discussion/future direction of the University
- Produce weekly email newsletters for Craft University
Budgeting, assessment and reporting
- Establish and oversee an evaluative criterion to assess the performance of all online courses, programs & instructors
- Prepare reports indicating program performance metrics, and make recommendations for continued growth of the business
Instructor support
- Identify, develop, and support instructors for online education programs
- Provide first line of contact and assistance for instructors, including contracting
- Conduct assessments of instructors’ abilities and recommend opportunities for improvement
Market Research
- Identify critical marketing populations and initiatives
- Regular analysis on market position. This includes reviewing ongoing information on competitors’ offerings and ongoing developments, as well as overall trends in online education
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Prefer candidates with knowledge or familiarity with online education &/or education administration
- Must be comfortable working with diverse technologies and learning new systems
- Must be familiar with basic HTML
- Must have strong technical capability & aptitude
- Superior time management skills and proven ability to meet strict deadlines
- High level of project management skills
- An ongoing customer focus
- Ability to be flexible within a rapidly changing environment
- Experience administrating or attending webinars &/or online courses is a plus
- Prior experience with Blackboard is a plus
- Must have strong attention to detail
